Day #4 Changing the Rules…

Welcome to Day #4!

Today we’re changing the rules…another key step to transforming your health and your life, and one you won’t normally find in a “health” newsletter.

The following is excerpted from Maximize Your Health In Just Minutes a Day with Dr. Ben, something you’ll continue to receive if you initially opted in for this 7 day series there:

This morning I was discussing with a couple team members the difference between Newtonian physics, which follows a set of “rules” that seem to hold true for most physical situations, and the more recently described theory of relativity and quantum physics, which describe phenomena in newly discovered situations where Newtonian rules don’t seem to hold “true”.

Many of us have grown up with a set of “rules” about earning and deserving–and to an extent, these rules have seemed to hold true and to “work”.

If you work hard, you can earn money, approval, even love…

and conversely, if you don’t work hard, do a good job, do something right, “earn” it…then you don’t deserve money, approval, love, happiness.

But is there another way to live that would bring more fulfillment and joy than the “earn” principle?

I’m recognizing my own tendency to try to “earn” and to resist receiving what I feel I haven’t “earned”.

This morning while sitting on the porch with my wife before everyone else awoke, I realized that many of the great stories from the Bible involved people receiving a promise that went way beyond anything they could see or earn–whether it was a way across the sea, water in the wilderness, or an heir to a childless couple later in life.

In fact, the last 24 hours, the phrase “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness” keeps coming back to me.

Abraham’s “approval”, and his becoming the father to a whole nation, was based solely on his believing God–and that when his outward condition gave no evidence that this would be so.

“Earning” works to a certain extent–but it’s hard work and often leaves us still striving and resisting.

What if we could learn to trust and surrender, to believe and receive, to allow our good to come to us based on grace, based on being, based on faith, rather than on our works or our “earning”.

A level of surrender is certainly required–surrender of our pride, our  feeling of control, our habits of thinking and talking to ourselves.

But what joy to really be free to receive!

Whatever your spiritual persuasion, many are now recognizing a Source whom I personally call God that is all around us and is for us.

An affirmation adapted from Florence Shinn that’s assisted me recently is “God is my unfailing supply, and large sums of money now come to me quickly, under grace, in perfect ways.”  You could fill in whatever supply you are seeking–abundant life, vibrant health, and so on.

“God is my unfailing supply, and vibrant health now flows to me daily, under grace, in perfect ways…”

Believe and receive.  Allow your good to come to you.

Okay, that’s lesson 4.

Today we “Changed the Rules” and discussed another key factor to healing, receiving, and abundance.

Have your own experience with earning vs. receiving?  I’d love to hear from you below!

  1. I believe in the power of faith to work in my life and have seen it happen many times. Occassionally it is difficult if you are caught up in the moment to allow yourself the perspective to “Let Go and Let God” which is a very powerful poem that encompasses this thought.
Even with this though I think you must do the footwork in order for things in life to work for you. Abraham would not have been chosen, for instance, if he had not worked hard to live a righteous life. You can not expect dividends to be paid to you if you do not make some sort of investment.
What I find most challenging is to ignore the negativity of those around me. Choosing not to allow that mindset to affect you is very difficult at times as it can pervade your environment.

  2. hi, i know about the bible verse you quoted, i read the bible daily, i also agree with the bible, janice rolls

  3. i find it easy to believe in Abraham’s way, God would not lead me astray, he will answer to my hopes in his own way and time. i experienced this when my husband passed away, he did not forget me but walked with me through a tough time in my life. jan

  4. “For by grace are we saved, through faith. Not of works lest any man should boast.” Romans 6:23

Isn’t it wonderful how the principle of salvation and unmerited favor permeates our existence?

  5. I was diagnoised with black melanoma 28 years ago and given 6 weeks to live but decided to “go natural” for my treatment. I did my part to change in the areas that needed it and God helped me in the areas that were beyond my ability. I have written a book that tells my story of over coming the negative self talk that caused my body to respond to the environment that I created, and how when I changed the self talk and started confessing what God said about me, things have changed in my life- only in a very dramatic way. My book is called “Why me?”

  6. This is a truly powerful lesson. Most of us grow up thinking that the harder I work, the more I will earn or get. While the principal is a very good principal, often times we realize we do not earn the income we deserve. However, faith is such a simple thing that most of us make difficult. All we need is faith as the size of a grain of mustard seed (which is pretty small). The affirmation listed is very powerful. By stating the affirmation, “God is my unfailing supply, and….now come to me quickly, under grace, in perfect ways” is such a simple statement that most of try to get these things by begging and pleading instead of understanding that by believing we get from God. Thanks so much for the encouragement.

  7. Ah…great contrast between begging and pleading…and simply believing! Thanks for sharing, Cheri!

  8. Hi everyone,
I like your articles Dr.Ben. I love the simpilicity and quick yet indepth writing. Lately I have been reading a lot of self help books and articles and they all keep refering to the issue of “Faith” I find it kind of odd and yet funny in a wierd way. I think if there was more faith in the world people would have fewer problems and more blessing in life. Currently I am working on this each time I read any information on this topic the message gets grounded in my mind. I know for sure I have a big issue on this. I am currently working on my faith in my life. Thanking you for shedding light on this subject.

  9. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Why do we insist on striving to exist???

    Thank you again.

    Linda

  10. Dr. Ben,
Your 4th lesson is beautiful. As I read it I felt calm inside.
    Trust, believe, receive.
I am quick to remind others of their guardian angels. I take less time to remind myself of my own. Your message is printed and displayed on my desk now to remind me to relax, believe, smile.
To feel His presence with me.
    Thank you,
    Diane
